Presidential Primary Republican Ballot Update
JACKSON, Miss. – With this morning’s announcement by Governor Nikki Haley to suspend her campaign for the 2024 Presidential Primary Election, she joins Governor Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy as candidates who qualified to appear on the March 12 ballot but have since withdrawn from the election.
Under Miss. Code Ann. Section 23-15-1095, a candidate who has qualified to appear on the presidential preference primary ballot must have submitted an affidavit to withdraw, which is required to be removed from the ballot. The deadline to submit the affidavit to have a candidate’s name stricken from the ballot was before the official sample ballot was published on January 22.
A public announcement withdrawing from the race does not meet this requirement, therefore no candidate's name has been removed from the ballot. All candidates were notified about the requirement pursuant to Miss. Code Ann. Section 23-15-1091.
